My name is Marcie and I live in sunny Southern California, Monterey Park to be exact!!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Cozumel. I had the privilege of living there back in the late 1980's when I was young and beautiful. My sister was head of Human Resources at the El Presidente Hotel and I visited there one summer.... well, I stayed for about 7 months!! Hurricane Gilbert and Keith ran my tushie back to L.A.!! I was there again in 1992 after I got married and now that I'm divorced I'm soooo ready to go back and make new memories..... I'll be there from  July 30-August 5, 2007!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!! So, I'm sure the island has changed alot since then.... fav. spots then were Mr. Papas and El Foco (taco place).... Does anyone know if the Lighthouse on the other side of the island is still open and if so, do they still fry those delicious fish!?!?!? GOD, I HOPE SO!!!ANYHOW, I appreciate any and all tips for my visit, it's been sooooo long!! Back in 1988 I rode a moped very often, but now I'm reading many horror stories.... any suggestions? Well, hope to hear back from somebody!!!  THANKS!!!  Cheesy

Welcome back MermaidMarcie!
The island has changed quite a bit.....and stayed the same too since you were there last. The people are still great and overall iit is still pretty laid back. As far as I know the lighthouse is still open but I'm not sure about the fish, someone else will have to answer you on that. I'm not familiar with your two favorite places either...not much help am I? We aren't adveturous enough to do a moped when we come down but they are still everywhere. They seem to be the transportation of choice for the locals.
We really love love love Cozumel too and keep coming back time after time.
Have fun as you reacquaint yourself with Cozumel on your return visit.

Hi Marcie,
El Foco is still there and as great as ever.  The Island has changed alot over the years, but it too is just as wonderful. I am sure you will have a fantastic time re-acquainting yourself with the Island, and will find many new and exciting areas. Be sure to stop by Tony's, and if any members are in town make some new friends.  Welcome back

Marcie.....WELCOME TO THE FORUM....even though it's been a long
time, you will fall right into place........Yes, like Cheryl said, El Foco is still open and the special is still my top pick...the Light House south or
"El Faro" is not open as before as when we used to go every Sunday
and there was standing room only to have the fresh fish and the
"Pescado En Tomatado" stuffed in the fresh handmade tortillas.....
it is now a National Park and they charge $10.00 per person to go
visit the light house...but thanks for bringing back the great memories of the flavors of those days....
welcome home
