Hi Gpoole,

What do you call expensive? You where there at Christmas for pizza the best for what we like. With Sangria for both of us it came to $35.00 with tip. That's clause to what I pay her in Canada for delivery and no sangria.

If you get in the past dish then you can run a bill to $50.00. We don't eat very much at night because we go to bed at 10pm.

Have fun in the sun  Cool

Guido's is my favorite restaurant. People often say it is expensive. Think of what you pay for a very decent dinner in the US or Canada?

Guido's handmakes all there pasta in house. All the ingredients in their dishes are fresh, herbs are grown in their back garden, the fisherman bring the catch of the day daily to them. They serve fresh fish only unless it is salmon. They prepare fish and cook it to perfection.

The menu at Guido's is two tiered. You can eat high and you can eat low. The base menu is very reasonable. The daily specials which are always fabulous are more pricey, but we are talking the 180 to 250 peso price range for the entries off the daily specials. They are worth the price and again compared to what I paid for a nice dinner in Vancouver Canada this is very reasonable. You must consider the detail and freshness of ingredients they put into these dishes.

Another thing I like is they serve very good wine. A majority of the wine comes from a french wine dealer in Mexico City: Cavas de Francia. Pierre is an nothing short of an expert regarding wine. Most of the wines he sells are organic: less headaches when drinking organic wine. He has a great selection of Chilean wines also. We order for our house by the case and it works out much better in price and quality as the wine is stored properly and far better then you find in the shops here on the island.

Some of my favorites off their menu: The fish carpaccio as an appetizer, especially if it is wahoo. Beef carpaccio. The avocado and wahoo caprese appetizer. Fish for a main order done calabrese style: olives, capers, lime, butter sauce........delicious!! Lasagna I have counted up to 16 layers of pasta in this dish and this pasta is fresh made in house. The fish cake appetizer very, very good! The gnocci when on the menu is excellent and made in house.

Guido's is certainly a place to visit while on your trip!

Prevecho!

Hi Lanier,

The pasta is better at Sunrrisi....they have a chef that does a great presentation on your plat. Great wine selection from all over the world.

You start by eating with your eyes and then it fills your belly  Cheesy

Price range is about the same...the Gelato is the key at Sunrrisi never had better any where.

Try it next time your are in town

Thanks Lyne, I was asking for a comparison to Guido's. I really like Sorrisi's, everything about it, I especially am excited about the new wine bar that Raul is having put in and can't wait to see it.  I have eaten at Guido's and think that is is ok, I just prefer Sorrisi's.  I love going to Sorrisi's for a nice evening meal and sampling the wines that Raul has purchased and are NOT on the wine list.

Well, O.K.....Their food is fresh....it's wonderfully prepared and presented.
When I ate there with my daughter I just thought it was pretty darned expensive.
When we look at a menu we like to order whatever we want.
But you all are right....you get what you pay for.
I just can't pay.

Hi Shavedog,

Are you telling me that $35.00, tip for 2 pizza and Sangria....we are talking the real stuff here not flavored water and a full litrer of it. Sorry forgot we also had a garden salade with that each.

Have a look at these pictures before you say it's to much...It's not peperroni and cheese we are talking about here. Mine had white asperaguste, black olives, fresh tomatos, mexican salami and mushrooms. My husband had the full deal calzone Shocked

we ate at guidos on 2/27/2010...we had a half pitcher of sangria and the cozumel pizza(cheese, ham an onion)..while the pizza was tasty, we both thought the price was the most exaggerated for our week in cozumel..along with a pushy waitor....that was our second trip to guidos and our last...sorry for the negative report ...

Just my two cents worth, although Guido's is slightly spendy for casual Italian, it's quite fabulous.  I live in Chicago and we have an abundance of really amazing Italian restaurants, and Guido's can hold up to any of them!  We will be trying Sorrisi's since so many seem to enjoy it.
